The Cat Lady For PC A psychological horror adventure, The Cat Lady provides a dark, emotional and enduring experience through its exploration of themes that are often taboo, especially in video games. It’s role-play as the lonely and depressed Susan Ashworth and how it all turns around after a strange experience, and by “turns around” I mean, everything gets dramatically and irrevocably worse in a scary and tense way rather than good and happy, and while the horror may not always manifest in jumps and action sequences it can often be just as terrifying with a disturbing narrative, creepy visuals and a strong and compellingstory..
The game involves element such as exploration, puzzling and dialogue which all slowly build up the deep story and lore to the game. Each section of the game you play through always introduces new individuals and morally challenging dilemmas that will leave the player questioning the choices made and the ones that lie ahead; this all builds upon the games incredible atmosphere and unique hand-drawn art-style and horrifying soundtrack to provide a tension you’ll feel on your skin the entire way through.
One element which The Cat Lady is lauded above others is its mature and realistic approach to mental health, loneliness, grief, and hope; though dealing with themes that are sometimes sickeningly grim the story is engaging and captivating from start to finish and is very character driven as opposed to action based and leaves a lasting impression for those that enjoy a story-driven game.
In summary The Cat Lady is a truly great indie horror game due to the psychologically disturbing story and its use of immersion but also the great art-style and overall presentation of it’s mature themes. I would greatly recommend it to anyone who enjoys an experience of that nature.
