Resident Evil 0 For PC is another fantastic classic survival horror game that combines a tense, mysterious and challenging experience with a great story. Set before the original RE, you’re put in charge of Rebecca Chambers, a member of the special police unit S.T.A.R.S, and escaped criminal Billy Coen as they investigate some rather sinister events and mysteries linked with the Umbrella Corporation. Their investigation takes them through various desolate areas that are populated by zombies, monsters, puzzles and hidden dangers.
The part of the game that I loved best is the game’s atmosphere. The dark, murky and depressing surroundings, accompanied by spooky and unnerving music, restricted amounts of items, and frightening encounters with new and dangerous creatures, really instill tension throughout the game, where virtually every room that you enter holds some kind of threat, making you truly think before you progress. Playing this with its now legendary fixed camera angles can also be somewhat unsettling, as there is no way for knowing what might be hiding right around the corner, and often with the least expectation possible you will be met with something truly frightening.
The co-op partner system is really a unique concept that had me hooked straight into the game’s core mechanics, which allows you to flip between playing as Rebecca and Billy and utilise the distinct abilities that they possess to aid in navigating through rooms and puzzles. Resource management and switching your inventory items between both characters is another interesting element that is incredibly useful considering your restricted inventory size. Uncover secrets, documents, keys and other objects within the levels helps keep you invested in the storyline, with cleverly thought-out puzzles providing a satisfying and challenging experience.
Resident Evil 0 provides both an impressive mix of survival horror, mystery, puzzles and story, making every experience that this game offers equally fun as it is frightening.
It would be an excellent choice for any fans of traditional horror video games or even fans of the RE series as well.
